STATEMENT BATHROOMS
My top tip for modern bathrooms is to make a statement.
It's a really exciting time for bathroom design right now with
lots of innovative new products and fantastic bold tiles
available.
The statement bathroom is a fun space to be enjoyed, it should
have a sanctuary feel without being clinical or even too spa like -
the bathrooms of 2010 are slightly more sophisticated than
that.
For a real impact, go for a block colour scheme using a single
colour palette. Lighter shades gives a spacious and calming effect
by creating a visual rest from bright colours, whereas darker tones
create a dramatic and opulent atmosphere for a truly lux
feel.
The key to making a block colour scheme work is contrasting
materials; mix matt and gloss finishes for a subtle range of tone
and texture.
If the latest bold tiles are too scary or if your bathroom space
is slightly smaller I would recommend incorporating one statement
feature as the design centrepiece, such as an intricate mosaic
tiled floor set in a decorative pattern or a large deep bath for
long soothing soaks.
Balance contemporary fixtures and fittings with a sleek and
uncomplicated design or more ornate designs for a more classic
style. Lighting can be manipulated to create varying moods and
atmospheres.
Whether it is a halo of lights set in the ceiling to create beams
of light around the shower for an invigorating showering experience
or subtle bath lights to provide a tranquil bathing space the
lighting will be central to creating a statement look. Mirrors also
help to reflect extra light into the room whilst providing a
stunning focal point.
