CHIC SOCIAL GARDENS
"Summer 2010 is all about incorporating the garden into your
social space and using it as an extension to your indoor living
area, focussing on presenting an outdoor space that looks sleek,
stylish and ready for entertaining. With an array of new garden
products very little is now considered inappropriate for outdoor
use.
Think fabrics, fireplaces, lighting and even kitchens!
Fabrics are an excellent way to add texture, colour and luxury to
the garden, I recommend using outdoor fabrics to make bespoke
cushions and throws to suit your individual style.
My preferred looks are bold prints in subtle tones of taupe and
burgundy for those wanting a stylish European feel or crisp sky
blues and white stripes for the ultimate chic LA look, all of which
are in our showroom garden this summer.
Environmentally friendly, contemporary open fireplaces have taken
over from the patio heater and they are a great addition to any
outdoor space, creating a dramatic focal point, great atmospheric
light and plenty of warmth for when the sun goes down.
If you have space I also recommend outside kitchens, they are a
fabulous concept and range from the latest contemporary BBQ's to
fully integrated versions.
My final tip for chic and social outdoor space is to incorporate
some clever lighting. A few small tricks like highlighting
plants with under-lighting make a big impact and you can also
create a range of moods with alternating coloured
light.
However, if you're looking for a more temporary solution you
should opt for some cleverly placed candle lanterns and oil burning
torches. These will give a more rustic or magical feel ideal for
fun-filled summer evenings.
Finally, add one large dose of English sunshine…"
